“Million Dollar” Muriel Bowser Collects 37.5% of Funds from Lobbyists, Corporations and their Executives
Councilmember Muriel Bowser has raised an astonishing $355,801 from lobbyists, corporations and their executives. Since 2006, Councilmember Muriel Bowser has raised $948,139 meaning 37.5% came from such sources as big-time developers, corporate bundlers and high-powered lobbyists.
What is more disturbing is that much of this lobbyist and developer money comes from entities that have business before the city. For example, Councilmember Bowser received $5750 in bundled contributions from Donatelli Development's executives and associate companies. Then Councilmember Bowser turned around and sought to obtain for Donatelli “an estimated $8.5 million in commercial property tax abatements.”1
After seeking the abatement, Bowser was rewarded with an additional $3000 in contributions from Donatelli Development's executives and associate companies.
“It’s shocking in a city where we have so little democracy that Councilmember Bowser is willing to auction off our government to the highest bidder,” said Max Skolnik, Democratic Candidate for Ward 4 Council.
The Max Skolnik campaign fully supports a referendum filed Tuesday by the DC Citizens for the Public Trust that would ban all corporate donations. Skolnik said Tuesday that he plans to hit the streets with petitions as soon as they are available.
“This is a grassroots effort to clean up our city. We need to get the money out of politics and restore power where it belongs--in the hands of the people of the District. That’s why I call on Councilmember Bowser and all Council candidates to reject any monetary contributions from corporations moving forward.”

Ward 4 Candidate Max Skolnik Supports Referendum Banning Corporate Campaign
Contributions
Max Skolnik, Democratic Candidate for Ward 4 Council, applauds the initiative filed today by the
DC Committee to Restore the Public Trust.
Max Skolnik is a strong proponent of election reform and believes that the growing influence of
corporations is a threat to our local democracy.
“Councilmember Bowser had a chance to remove the corrupting money from our elections, but
instead she chose to protect the developers and lobbyists who have helped her campaigns raise
nearly a million dollars,” said Max Skolnik.
Since only 2006, Councilmember Bowser has raised $355,801 (37.5% of her total contributions)
from lobbyists, corporations and their executives. Bowser’s campaign practices are a perfect example
of what this ballot initiative seeks to change.
“This is a grassroots effort to clean up our city. As I knock on doors in Ward 4, I’ll be carrying
petition sheets with me, as will all of my volunteers. I call on Councilmember Bowser and all other
candidates around the District to do the same.”
